In an uncharacteristically nice turn, the "Copyright Czar" Victoria Espinel has asked for public opinions on IP enforcement.Now, it's obvious that she's really fishing for the RIAA and MPAA to provide her with justification. But even so, the fact is that the lines of communication have been opened.

So, on the tails of my recent post about why artists should embrace filesharing, I decided to write her an email. This is the text of that email.

Lots of people (mostly labels, but some artists) believe that "piracy" is the same as "theft." They believe that downloading music for free hurts artists, especially independent artists. They're wrong. In this essay, I'll tell you why.

This is just a quick thank-you to everyone who came out to the second annual PE/Noise Fest. All three nights were a smashing success. I can't think of one single performance that I didn't like, the crowds were awesome, and my performances were a lot of fun.
